My group is adapting Act I, Scenes IV and V as well as all of Act IV of Shakespeare and Fletcher’s The Two Noble Kinsmen. The group members I have been assigned to work with include Cyrus Mijares-Shafai, Daniel Hills, and Kieran Kristensen. After discussing the pros and cons of many different ideas, we finally decided to revise the play to be similar to that of the dialogue in the movie, The Big Lebowski. The revised play should be read with the same voice as the beginning of the movie. The entire modification will hopefully give the play a more modern feel and add some comedy to it, so that people in the present are more interested reading it and can relate to it.

The group worked extremely well together. We all had our mind set on one task, and wanted to do the best job we could on that task. Once we were all able to decide on how we wanted to adapt the play, everything went smoothly from then on out. We communicated our thoughts well, and listened to each person’s opinions and ideas, without ever putting someone down for offering their own opinion. We made sure that each person in the group was happy with the direction that the adaptation was headed, so that each member felt like they were being included in the progress of the revision.

Furthermore, my group did a great job in communicating over the Internet through Facebook, etc and bouncing ideas off of one another. We stayed on top of the project and people always had new ideas to add. Although we did not always feel the need to meet in person, communicating over the Internet was not difficult at all. Each member in the group always responded to each other’s messages, and we had some long conversations discussing many parts of the project. We would post the new revisions each time and the group would give their input on each part, making every draft better than the one before.

In addition, when we met in person, each member showed up on time and was involved in the project. We made sure everyone was able to make it to the group meetings, so that no one would fall behind with the new ideas we came up with. This also prevented any changes to the project without the approval of all members of the group.

Since I was the only girl in a group with three other boys, I found that my views and opinions would often be very different from the boys. I realize that it was actually very helpful to have members of the opposite sex in the same group since we were able to give different sides of the argument. The boys were very open to hearing my new ideas, which I found comforting to know that my voice was being heard. This gave the group many more ideas to look at as options in the revision of the play. The more ideas that we came up with, the better our adaptation would come out in the end.

Overall I feel that our group was very happy with the outcome of the adaptation as a whole. The play has a twist of comedy and adds a modernized feel to The Two Noble Kinsmen play by Shakespeare and Fletcher. We worked very well as a group and are extremely content with the way the adaptation came out. I hope that the class enjoys it as much as we do!
